"…Jesus."
--Matthew 1:18

When a person is dear to us everything connected with him becomes dear as well. Since the person of the Lord Jesus is precious in the estimation of all true believers, they consider everything about Him to be of inestimable value. "All of Your garments smell of myrrh, and aloes, and cassia," said David, as if the very clothing of the Savior were sweetened by Him. There isn’t a single spot where his holy foot has walked, a word that his blessed lips have uttered, nor a thought that His loving Word has revealed that is not precious to us beyond all price.

When it comes to the names of Christ, they are all sweet in the believer's ear-- whether He is called the Bridegroom of the Church, the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world, the King, the Prophet, or the Priest.  Ever title of our Master-- Shiloh, Emmanuel, Wonderful, the Mighty Counselor-- every name is like the honeycomb dripping with honey.

But if there is one name sweeter than any other, it is the name of "Jesus." It is the name that makes Heaven sing, and there is no wonder that it is woven into the very fabric of our singing, too. Many of our hymns begin with it, and scarcely any (that are worth anything) end without it.

It is an entire song in a single word; an ocean of meaning in a mere drop of brevity; a matchless oratorio in two syllables; a crescendo of eternal hallelujahs in five letters. "Jesus, I love Your charming name; it is music to my ear." [M&E]
