Morning & Evening Daily Devotional Reading– February 28

by Charles H. Spurgeon, Revised and Edited by William C. Neff

“[Lord], my expectation is from You.”

—Psalm 62:5

It is the believer’s privilege to speak this way about God. If he is expecting to receive bountifully from the world, then he has a poor expectation indeed. But if he looks to God for the supply of his needs, whether in temporal or spiritual things, his expectation will not be empty. Constantly he may draw from the bank of faith and get his need supplied out of the riches of God’s loving kindness. I know this– that I would rather have God for my banker than all the financial institutions in the world. My Lord never fails to honor His promises; and when we bring them to His throne, He never sends them back unanswered. Therefore I will wait only at His door, for He always opens it with the hand of unsparing grace. And that is why today I will go to Him with expectancy again.

Of course, our expectations go far beyond this life as well. We will all die soon, and our expectation ought to be in Him. We believe that when the pulse is faint and the heart heaves heavily, some angelic messenger will stand and look with loving eyes upon us and whisper, “Kindred spirit, come with me!” As we approach the heavenly gate, we expect to hear the welcome invitation, “Come, you who are blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you before the foundation of the world.” We are expecting harps of gold and crowns of glory— to be among the multitudes that shine before the throne— to be like our glorious Lord Himself for “We will see Him as He is.”

If these are your expectations, then live for God; live with the desire and resolve to glorify Him who is your constant supply.[M&E]
