Morning & Evening Daily Devotional Reading– September 19

by Charles H. Spurgeon, Revised and Edited by William C. Neff

“Stand firm in the liberty by which Christ has made us free.”

—Galatians 5:1

Think for a moment of the great Liberty you have in Christ! You are free in many ways.

First of all, you are free to receive the Word of God, the Bible. Consider this choice passage where God says, “When you pass through the rivers, I will be with you.” O Christian, you are free to that! And here’s another, “The mountains will depart and the hills be removed, but my kindness will not depart from you”. You are free to that!

You’re also a welcome guest at the table of His promises. Scripture is a never-failing treasury filled with boundless stores of grace. It is the bank of heaven, and you may draw from it as much as you please without hindrance. You are free to receive all the covenant blessings in Christ. There isn’t a promise in the Word that will be withheld. In the depths of trouble let that comfort you; among waves of distress let it cheer you; when sorrows surround you, let it be your joy.

You are also free to access the throne of grace—- to have access at all times to your Heavenly Father. Whatever our desires, our difficulties, our wants– we are at liberty to spread everything before Him. It doesn’t matter how much we may have sinned, we may ask and expect pardon. It doesn’t matter how poor we are, we may plead His promise that He will provide all we need. Exercise your right, O believer, and live up to your privilege!

And, lastly, you are free to all that is treasured up in Christ: wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption. It doesn’t matter what your need is, for Christ is fully supplied, and His supply is there for you. O what “freedom” is yours! [M&E]
